Welcome to Mase
As a preserved village, Mase is located at 1 345 m and benefits from an unspoilt environment, a paradise for nature lovers. This makes it an ideal place to rest, recharge your batteries, discover and observe the riches of a region that has preserved its authenticity. Mase was called Mage until 1898, this name given by the Celts means « cultivated land ». From the 12th to the 18th century Mase is the true witness of an era when simplicity and solidarity reigned, sometimes on the edge of poverty, in a living environment where the superfluous was absent. This governed the pace of life from the past until... just 50 years ago. A particular attention is paid to the maintenance of local tradi- tions, as well as the preservation of cultural and natural values. Some craftsmen still work in the village. The bisse of Tsa Crêta and its educational trail, the common oven, its mill as well as the bear house and the attic are all witnesses of the past that Mase brings to life with happiness.
